CIL conduct fire safety audit in India, The fire safety audit is an examination of the buildings / structures and relevant documents to ascertain how the buildings are being managed regarding fire safety. In other words, it is aimed to assess the building for compliance with the National Building Code of India, relevant Indian Standards and the legislations passed by various state governments and local bodies, on fire prevention and life safety measures. Safety Audit is a form of risk analysis and evaluation in which a systematic investigation is carried out in order to determine the extent to which the conditions are present that provide for the development and implementation of an effective and efficient safety policy. The main objective of safety audit is to carry out a systematic, critical appraisal of all potential hazards involving personnel, plant services and operation method, and to ensure that safety and health system fully satisfy the legal requirements. Depending on the requirements of the occupancy, the audit can focus attention on various aspects of a safety system such as fire and explosion prevention, protection and emergency management. CIL has a statutory duty to enforce the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) in the county, to reduce the risk of fire causing death or serious injury to persons and to protect property.
Our role is to provide practical fire safety advice and guidance to help you meet you legal obligations, which is partly achieved through our regular free workplace fire safety online sessions.
We also conduct fire safety audits, which examine premises and relevant documents to ascertain how the premises is being managed and if the FSO is being complied with. Fire safety audits and inspections are conducted by competent staff.
As part of the audit process we may require to inspect the following documents as evidence of compliance, which is then followed by a visual examination of the premises.
A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, including details of the significant findings.
Fire safety policy.
Emergency evacuation plan and fire drill records.
Staff fire safety training records (induction/refresher/fire extinguishers).
Fire alarm system test records by management and competent engineer.
Emergency lighting system test records by management and competent engineer.
Fire extinguisher test records by a competent person.
Fixed electrical wiring test record for the building by a competent person.
Portable Appliance Test (PAT) records for electrical equipment by a competent person.
The above list is not exhaustive and other evidence may be required depending on the nature of the premises and/or the activities being conducted.
Audits of premises are prioritised by risk.
Certain incidents, trends or initiatives may redirect the focus of the inspection programme to other premises types. Fire safety audits and inspections are also conducted in the following circumstances:
Alleged fire risk (complaint).
Post fire audit (following a fire).
Follow-up audit (following a previous audit).
In consultation with other authorities (e.g. premises licence application).
On request from others (regulators or owner/occupiers).
Once a fire safety audit or fire risk assessment is completed, the fire safety auditor will discuss the findings and explain practical methods of reducing fire risks to an acceptable level. The fire safety auditor will then prepare a detailed fire safety report setting out prioritised recommendations in order to facilitate compliance with fire safety legislation.

Fire Safety audit is found to be an effective tool for assessing fire safety standards of an organization or an occupancy. It helps the people to identify the areas for improvement and evolve an action plan. A comprehensive fire safety audit is a structured and systematic examination of an organization or occupancy to identify the hazards from fire. In other words, the fire safety audits are structured to check current adequacy of components, services and equipment; report of the expected performance, make recommendations for the compliance with the existing building rules, regulations, codes and standards, and the requirement of providing a safe place for living or carry out commercial or industrial activities. It is presumed that a comprehensive fire safety audit can cover various aspects which are related to design, operation and maintenance of the facilities, and even the review of inherent fire hazards associated with the day to day activities in a building. It assesses the building for compliance with the existing building codes, national standards and the building fire safety regulations. In addition to complete building auditing, they can even be tailored to suit a specific fire protection system. The audit findings are generally published in a report which also provides recommendations on how to remedy any non-compliance that were identified. Thus the fire safety audits will allow us to identify any non conformances and / or provide recommendations to the client allowing them to attend to these matters and therefore seek to achieve compliance with relevant legislation. It may be remembered here that the fire safety audits are not limited to a desk top review of available documentations or a visual inspection. On the contrary an active system test can also be carried out to ensure all systems operate and interface as designed and included in a fire safety audit report. Contact us for fire safety audit.

A fire safety audit is an examination of your business premises and a fire safety inspector will provide you with relevant documents to see how your premises are being managed in terms of fire safety. When visiting your premises, a fire inspector may talk to your employees to get their understanding of fire safety and awareness to which they should be trained too. The visits for a fire safety audit are usually prearranged, and the audit will include checking what processes and documentation that you have already in place and advise you accordingly. A legal requirement is to have a responsible person for a building, for example, the owner, manager or health and safety officer, have responsibility to ensure that the fire safety regulations are upheld. Failing to comply with this, can earn the business owner large fines or even a prison sentence. When it comes to fire safety, being prepared for a fire is better than having any form of damage control.
What can I expect from a fire safety audit?
Completing a thorough inspection of any commercial business, a fire safety audit is a thorough inspection of any non-residential premises. It will be carried out by a fire safety inspector, sometimes the official title can vary. As mentioned, the audit could involve talking to employees about their understanding of the fire safety procedures in your premises. The necessary documentation can include:
Depending on your business the amount of documentation can vary dramatically. From an IT company, to a chip shop, every business is unique. No matter the industry, every office design needs to incorporate the latest fire safety and prevention methodology. Our advice will be to look up your local fire safety laws and get up to date with any recent changes that may affect your business. This will help you get ahead of the game and ensure that you are following to the letter.
What happens after a fire safety audit?
Depending on the score following the outcome of your audit, depends on what happens next. If the fire safety officer finds a complete breach of the fire safety regulations, it is up to the fire safety inspector about how they respond. If the matter is of a serious nature, the officer can issue an enforcement notice. This notice will set out a strict deadline for when the work has to be completed by. The officer can use emergency powers to restrict the use of the building until the problems have been resolved. If the mistake is minor, they may take a more informal approach by discussing the mistakes with you and the responsible persons to rectify it straight away. If you are unsure how safe your business is, it maybe worth booking a fire safety check with Cooke & Bern to get all the relevant documentation, and we will be able to advise you on fire safety systems that maybe of use to your business

A fire safety audit is a process to assess an organization's current policies and procedures against the recognized good practice in order to identify and report upon existing deficiencies. It should cover all aspects of a site and the company's management systems relating to fire safety. In order to ensure compliance with the legislation, every organization needs to provide evidence that it has an adequate fire-fighting capability and the means of implementing a response policy suitable for its size, its location, and local conditions. The purpose of this Fire safety audit is to determine the way in which fire safety policy guidelines are written, updated, and stored within a company's premises. This will allow for the development of an effective fire action plan based on current legislation and also highlight any areas where apparatus may be insufficient or alternative arrangements such as early warning systems could be implemented. A fire safety audit is conducted to study the hazardous consequences and properties of high-risk areas so that the people living there could be warned about what happens during a fire and how they should respond. The main motive of having an audit is to identify whether the business is fulfilling the safety requirements for their employees, visitors, business partners as well as the general public.

CIL Provides Accredited Fire Safety Audit Services in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. CIL is an ISO 17020 accredited agency for 'fire safety inspection / fire safety audit'.
We are often asked what a fire safety audit is and this can be quite concerning. To put it simply, they are a physical inspection of a property to establish how the property, usually they are non-residential, is managed with regards to fire safety. More often than not, they are pre-arranged by a company that is looking to be proactive about the care of their employees. The audit will involve checking documentation, speaking to various members of staff to establish what they do and don't know and checking what procedures are in place.
Legally, "responsible persons" for a building such as business owners and managers have a responsibility for ensuring that fire regulations are complied with. Failure to do so is a serious crime that can lead to large fines, imprisonment or both.
Prevention is always better than cure and that is certainly the case with fire safety. It is understandable if you are unsure how safe your premises are but it is not something that can be ignored. You need to arrange a risk assessment that can be conducted by a trained professional. They will immediately be able to spot any potential problems and offer sensible, practical solutions. They will also be able to advise you on fire extinguisher placement, sprinkler systems and the installation of fire doors.
What should you expect?
A fire safety audit is a thorough inspection of your premises along with all the latest documentation. It may depend on who is carrying out the inspection and who has arranged it for what exactly takes place. If you have requested the audit, you will be given helpful advice but if it is an official fire safety inspector carrying out an official inspection, it may well involve interviews and demands for immediate action.
What happens next?
The aim of the fire inspection, if carried out by an inspector is to establish how well you have scored. If your premises or the documentation are in breach of any laws, the officer will decide what response is required. This will depend on the severity of the breach and what steps are already in place to comply with the regulations.
Minor breaches usually get a more informal response and often include suggestions and instructions of what needs to done to remedy the problem. This will involve talking to the 'responsible person' and requesting that they take immediate action. More often than not, the inspector will return to check that the requests have been complied with.
Where serious breaches have taken place, an enforcement notice may be issued. A deadline will be set for the work to be completed. The deadline will be ample time to carry out the changes but will also be enough time to carry out an appeal if the business owner feels that this is necessary. In the worst case scenario and the inspector feels that the premises are an immediate danger they can impose emergency powers to restrict operations. If the responsible person has failed to adequately comply with fire safety law, the inspector can also initiate a prosecution.

CIL Provides Accredited Fire Safety Audit Services in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. CIL is an ISO 17020 accredited agency for 'fire safety inspection / fire safety audit'.
Audits on fire detection and protection systems are primarily aimed at ensuring that they work correctly and are suited to the fire hazard.
A fire safety audit is an examination of the premises and relevant documents to ascertain how the premises are being managed with regards to fire safety. Fire safety audit is an effective tool for assessing fire safety standards of an organization or occupancy. Our comprehensive fire safety audit addresses the inherent fire hazards associated with the day-to-day activities in an occupancy and recommend measures to reduce the potential fire hazards.
Our fire safety inspection helps to ensure that the owners and occupiers of buildings are meeting their responsibilities under the legislation, that buildings are fitted with correct fire safety installations required by the fire safety standard, and that these fire safety installations are maintained in an operational condition. We carry out fire safety inspections in accordance with our own risk-based fire safety audit standard (checklist).
We begin our assignment by retrieving data before visiting the site to audit the existing fire safety systems and equipment (gathering of information on existing means, visual assessment without dismantling components or taking readings or measurements). Based on the site surveys, we analyse the fire risk by zone and the compliance of the fire safety systems with regulatory requirements and the demands of the company and/or insurer:
· Classification of the activities and fire risks.
· Definition of the protection required by the rules in force.
· Listing of the discrepancies between the existing systems and the applicable rules.
Fire safety audit is an effective tool for assessing fire safety standards of an organization or an occupancy. A comprehensive fire safety audit should address the inherent fire hazardous associated with the day to day activities in an occupancy and recommend measures to reduce the potential fire hazards. In spite of bringing stringent fire safety regulations by many state governments and local bodies, still the numbers of fires in the country are on the increase, resulting in the loss of many life and property. An effective building maintenance policy is an essential feature of fire prevention. However, it is observed, that a large number of occupancies do not have dedicated maintenance staff and as a result, most of the maintenance scheduling and documentation is handled by an employee with no experience with maintenance procedures or legislative requirements. It is also observed that many of the occupants and owners have not been aware, that many of the fire safety features of their building had not been maintained in accordance with the legislative requirements. Fire Safety Audit is a structured tool to deeply see through the efficiency, effectiveness & reliability on Fire Safety Management System and its associated arrangements of a facility. A well-structured auditing program identifies various organizational risks, helps to reinforce & reduce by complying with applicable standards & regulations, and also provides the structured recommendation on continual improvement.

A fire safety inspection helps to ensure that the owners and occupiers of buildings are meeting their responsibilities under the legislation, that buildings are fitted with correct fire safety installations required by the fire safety standard, and that these fire safety installations are maintained in an operational condition. Normally, the inspection checklist will be completed during the inspection of the property and the owner / occupier will receive, a copy of the completed checklist signed by the inspecting officer. If no problems are found to exit, the inspection is complete. Where it is found that the building does not comply with legislative requirements or that fire safety systems have not been correctly maintained, the faults will be noted on the inspection report together with the action required by the owner / occupier and the time by which the owner / occupier must have faults corrected. Fire safety inspection is a visual check of fire safety in a building using a standard fire safety inspection checklist of legislative requirements. The Directorate of Maharashtra Fire Safety Services, has framed a fire safety checklist for buildings, which covers many areas such as the ownership, structural details, active and passive fire protection installations of the building, fire prevention and awareness measures to be followed, etc.

Fire Safety Audits
Fires can have a devastating financial impact upon businesses of all sizes, destroying the livelihood of business owners, operators, and employees, and in many cases leading to bankruptcy. Whether large or small, a fire can cause irreparable damage to a business' infrastructure and stock, resulting in significant losses to productivity and profit. Statistics show that a large portion of businesses that suffer a fire do not continue operating after the incident.
Therefore it is critical for business owners and their insurers to implement all fire prevention methods available and to ensure that properties and people are protected against a fire loss. This can be achieved by installing suitable fire alarm systems and extinguishers, and by establishing and maintaining a fire safety policy.
We conduct fire safety audits that involve an examination of the premises, fire alarm systems, and firefighting equipment, as well as examination of the relevant documents regarding the management of fire safety on the premises. Our engineers conduct walk-through inspections and talk to members of staff to confirm their level of fire safety awareness.
We employ our thorough understanding of fires and their root causes to provide a valuable assessment of occupants’ ability to prevent a fire ignition, and utilise our many years of experience investigating fires across different types of properties to assess the occupants’ ability to mitigate and control the spread of fire.
During our audits, we request for the occupants to demonstrate that they have met the fire protection requirements mandated by local codes and agencies. We also verify the adequacy and effectiveness of the following fire protection systems:
Our fire safety audits will typically conclude with a walk around the premises to highlight findings and confirm the validity of everything discussed.
These audits have been utilised by business owners wishing to ensure their compliance with applicable local codes and regulations, as well as by insurers seeking validation of policy warranties.
Our priority is not to catch violations or document deficiencies, but instead to inform and educate the responsible person on the premises about how to meet their required local codes and standards, and the insurance policy terms and conditions.

Preparing for the audit,
In order for the audit process to be as effective as possible, it is considered important that pre-audit preparations are agreed and completed. Once all logistical arrangements have been confirmed with the relevant British Safety Council account manager, the allocated auditor will make contact with the appropriate person within the organisation no later than ten (10) days before the audit start date to discuss and agree the audit details (timings, interviews, site inspections, induction process, security / PPE arrangements, etc). This specification document (see section 8) outlines the various forms of information and documentation that the auditor is likely to request for review, together with personnel who may be requested for interview. It would be advantageous if relevant documentation is readily available (either electronically or in hard copy) for the auditor. Some of this material may be retained by the auditor during the audit process (with explicit consent of the auditee). All British Safety Council auditors are mindful of operational demands and requirements and will apply as much flexibility with the audit schedule as is reasonably practicable to accommodate such matters. Upon completion of the audit process, a comprehensive report is prepared by the auditor and will be issued within a maximum of 28 days. The report content will include:
• Executive summary and background information
• Observed strengths and recommendations for continual improvement
• Workplace fire safety observations
• Report content plus prioritised (red/amber/green) recommendations.
• Action planning tables.
The recommendations against the requirements of the Fire Safety Audit specification are presented as per the BSC.

But Fire can also be disastrous. We casually dispel the thought of fire having any detrimental effect on our lives with the belief ‘it will never happen to me’; the reality on the other hand is unpredictable.
